Signifikansi Complement

Complement ialah kata atau kelompok kata yang melengkapi makna dari subject, verb, ataupun object. Dengan demikian ada tiga jenis complement, merupakan:
subject,
verb, dan
object complement.

Subject Complement

Pengertian Subject Complement

Subject complement adalah noun, pronoun, adjective, alias gedung tak (berperan umpama
noun
atau
adjective) yang mengikuti
verbs of being
atau linking verb serta berfungsi menjernihkan ataupun merujuk subjek kalimat.
Linking verb
dapat berupaverb of sensation (feel, look, smell, sound, taste) dan verb of being (act, appear, be, become, continue, grow, prove, remain, seem, turn).

Subject complement dapat dibedakan menjadi predicative adjective (subjek dihubungkan dengan
adjective), dan predicate nominative (subjek dihubungkan dengan
noun
alias
pronoun).

1. Mr. Mamat
   was

   headmaster.
   (Mr. Mamat yakni bos sekolah yang hebat.)

   Permakluman:

   Headmaster (predicate noun) menerangkan subjek “Mr. Mamat”.

2. That lady
   is
   very
   beautiful.
   (Wanita itu sangat rupawan.)

   Keterangan:

   Beautiful(predicate adjective) menerangkan subjek “lady)”.

3. These
   are
   yours.
   (Ini milikmu.)

   Keterangan:

   Yours
   (predicate pronoun) membeningkan subjek “this”.

4. The noodle
   tasted
   delicious.
   (Mie tsb terasa lezat.)

   Maklumat:

   Delicious (predicate adjective) menerangkan subjek “noodle”.

5. My favorite activities
   areshopping
   and
   traveling.
   (Aktivitas favoritku yakni belanja dan kronologi-jalan.)

   Warta:

   Shopping,
   traveling
   (gerund) menerangkan subjek “activity”.

6. His dream
   is
   to win a cooking contest.
   (Impiannya yaitu menang kontes matang.)

   Keterangan:

   To win a cooking contest (infinitive) menerangkan subjek (dream).

Verb Complement

Pengertian Verb Complement

Verb complement
yaitu direct object (DO) atau direct object (DO) dan indirect object (IO) dari satuverb. Objek-objek tersebut dapat berupa
noun,
pronoun, maupun gedung lain nan bersandiwara seperti
noun, begitu juga:
gerund,
infinitive, dan noun clause.

Object Complement

Signifikasi Object Complement

Object complement adalah noun, pronoun, adjective atau konstruksi bukan yang berakting seperti noun ataupunadjective nan berfungsi mendeskripsikan ataupun merujuk kepada direct object.
Hanya transitive verb yang dapat punyaobject complement. Selain menerangkanobject of verb, objek ini juga bisa mengimak object of preposition.

Ideal Object Complement

Makrifat:

• direct object =
  bold
• object complement =
  italic

1. The naughty boys calledRezkymadman to makehimangry.
   (Anak-anak nakal memanggil Rezky individu gila cak bagi membuatnya marah.)

   Keterangan:

   • Him (pronoun) ialah
     direct object
     berpangkalverb
     “make”
   • angry (adjective) yaitu
     object complement
     berpangkalhim
2. I foundthe questioneasy.
   (Aku merasa bahwa pertanyaan itu mudah.)

   Makrifat:

   Easy (adjective) adalah
   object complement
   berpuncaquestion.

3. Nobody called
   him
   nice.
   (Bukan seorangpun menyapa dirinya menyenangkan.)

   Laporan:

   Nice (adjective) adalah
   object complement
   darihim.

Hati-lever membedakan antaradirect object
(DO) denganobject complement (OC) ketika DO digunakan bersamaindirect object (IO). OC digunakan bikin menjernihkan DO, sementara itu IO digunakan untuk menyatakan bagi siapa/barang apa DO tersebut. Jika masih bingung juga, engkau dapat mengetes dengan mensubstitusikan “to be” diantara objek-objek tsb. Sekiranya maknanya rasional, maka objek ialahobject complement.

Contoh substitusi

1. My brother paid the woodworkerten dollars.
   (Saudaraku mengupah tukang kayu dasa dollar.)

   Amatan

   Ten dollars merupakan DO atau OC?

   Substitusi:

   woodworker “is” ten dollars

   Konklusi:

   Makna tidak logis, maka ialah DO.

2. I named my catKitty.
   (Aku menyebutkan kucingku Kitty.)

   Analisis

   Kitty yakni DO atau OC?

   Substitusi:

   cat “is” kitty

   Kesimpulan:

   Makna mantiki, maka yaitu OC.
